New Girl Style Spotter: Elvis

It was another week of outrageous fashion on New Girl. Jess and the roommates take a trip to Chicago for Nick’s father‘s funeral, and it turns out, Nick’s family is more of a disaster than he is. His mother insists on having an Elvis-themed funeral, since that’s what her husband would’ve wanted. When the “Elvis impersonator” that Nick found at a bar turned out to be drunk and useless (no surprise there), it was up to Jess to take on the role and save the funeral. Her rendition of “In the Ghetto” was just what the funeral attendees needed to celebrate the (not-always-virtuous) life of Nick’s father. Elvis costume aside, there were still some great fashion choices by Jess in the episode.

For her arrival in Chicago, Jess wore this beautiful merlot-colored coat by Orla Kiely. The coat has a classic shape, and the piping and oversized buttons really give it something special.

Jess brings back one of her tried-and-true J.Crew sweaters in a bright turquoise color. It’s perfect for keeping warm in Chicago with a pop of color!

My personal favorite look from the episode is the back flared dress that Jess wore to the funeral (before she became Elvis, of course). Adding just a little white trim to an all-black dress is a great way to wear the black-and-white trend. It is still unclear where we can find the exact dress (perhaps another custom piece?), but the Kate Spade option below is very similar.

For another, more affordable option inspired by the black-and-white dress, this ModCloth frock is similar as well.
